Practical guide
What Is Base and How Do You Bridge to It
Base is an Ethereum layer 2: it shares Ethereum’s address format and account model but settles transactions more cheaply. Getting a token onto Base means bridging it there, not swapping it.
Same address, different chain
A Base address looks identical to an Ethereum address because it is the same keypair. What differs is which chain a given balance actually sits on.
Bridging versus swapping
Moving a token from Ethereum to Base is a bridge transaction, not a swap: the token is not exchanged for another asset, it is moved to a different chain.
Confirm the destination chain
Before signing a bridge transaction, confirm the destination chain and the amount you are quoted to receive, since that figure is fixed at order creation rather than estimated after the fact.
