Practical guide
How Swap Routing Picks a Path
A swap aggregator evaluates many possible pools and paths for a trade, not just the most obvious one, and can split an order across several routes to get a better combined price.
Why one pool is not always best
A single pool’s price impact grows with trade size. Splitting a trade across multiple pools can reduce the combined price impact compared to routing it all through one.
Multi-hop paths
A route can pass through an intermediate token when that produces a better price than a direct pair, which is why a quote sometimes shows more than one hop.
The quoted route is what you approve
The specific route and minimum received amount shown before you sign should match the trade you intend; review it rather than assuming any route is equivalent.
